As a longtime fan and supporter of Roald Dahl and his works, I am writing to you today with the hope that you will reconsider the current plan to edit Mr. Dahl’s books. I am a lifetime-time lover of books and applaud the years of your life that you have dedicated to publishing many works we all hold dear. I urge you to consider the historical importance of Roald Dahl along with the artistry that was put into every single word he wrote. As we both know, he risked his life fighting for the freedom of speech and expression that we all hold dear. This alone should ensure that his works are published as he intended not destroyed, as Penguin intended.
Specifically, I ask that you support Roald Dahl’s legacy in the following ways:
- Stop all planned publishing of edited texts.
- Use the time and dedicated funds to ensure that all of Roald Dahls’ works are preserved as he intended.
- educate children on the importance of preserving art in all forms.
- Improve the ability for children to access Dahl’s original works through engaging and educating arts programs on the need to protect the arts.
- Begin a project that will help protect ALL authors from having their works destroyed by people who wish to silence opposing thoughts.
Roald Dahl is Important
Surviving his time as an Allied Pilot, Roald Dahl went on to become an accomplished literary artist. The editing of his works to meet the demands of socio-political activism is exactly what he fought to protect our children from. The arts must remain sacred, free from the meddling hands of those who wish to force personal agendas on the masses. The arts make us feel and they help us learn not only to accept our own feelings but to appreciate the experience of others. Roald Dahl’s popularity continues because HIS words engage our emotions.
The importance of Roald Dahl’s books extends far beyond simple children’s stories. I ask you to continue to support Roald Dahl and Western Culture by keeping his books intact and by working to ensure that the rich history of so many other writers in our culture is never altered or forgotten.
Sincerely,
